Who we are
G-Global is a multifunctional Internet platform established with the aim to initiate and maintain a worldwide discussion on global development in its broadest sense and a wide range of related topics.
Since its establishment, 25,000 contributors from 149 countries have been registered and more than 1.8 million people have visited the portal.
In its short period of existence, G-Global has built up a social network of Kazakh intellectuals and their counterparts all over the world joining efforts to seek responses to the world’s most urgent challenges today with the aim to provide durable solutions for the future world. Through open and profound debates, economic, political, cultural, demographic and many other issues are thus touched upon.
G-Global publicises topics in more than 50 domains on its platform within the following five main sections:
- reviews/comments by economic experts;
- business projects;
- open debates;
- a monthly online interactive conference is to be held centred around a “Person of the Month” with the participation of both Kazakh economic specialists and experts from around the world.
G-Global has swiftly gained importance and impact thanks to the support of 14 Nobel laureates including Robert Mundell, John Nash, Robert Kornberg, Eric Maskin, John Aumann, Finn Kydland and Sir James Mirlees – as well as other specialists in science and education, business executives and representatives of international organisations.
How it all began
Observing that the information era we live in requires fresh approaches to the way international cooperation and relations have to be maintained and expanded, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the celebration of the country’s 20th anniversary of its independence which took place on December 16 2011 suggested a new formula for multilateral cooperation in which all interested countries as well as international organisations and professional circles within the international community could participate. This resulted in the establishment of the communication platform G-Global which took off on January 12 2012, bringing scientists, members of business communities, state officials and other interested parties in modern-day Kazakhstan together with their peers all over the world to discuss economic issues that matter today. Overcoming the global financial and economic crisis appeared to be on top of the agenda from the beginning.
Topics under discussion include Kazakhstan’s, the region’s and the world’s positions related to issues such as region-wise strategies, food security, law and human rights, a “green” economy, alternative energy resources and others.
Specialists from various parts of the world have already brainstormed on the question how to reduce credit risks for banks, methods of financial asset valuation, the need to boost agricultural productivity and the issue of nuclear energy.
Visitors to our site have proactively participated in discussions on geopolitical and economic issues, education in Kazakhstan and worldwide, the situation concerning the financial constellation in the world, oil prices and other energy-related issues and many other topics of global interest.
In October 2012, work on a rebranding of G-Global was completed, based on three user-friendly devices for those who are working with the Internet: navigation, personalisation and minimisation.
